Origin Story
Pfefferkorn Engineering & Environmental is a woman-owned small business providing engineering and environmental services. PE2 was established in 2015 by engineer siblings Kate and Gabe Pfefferkorn. The owners’ great grandfather Bill A. Pfeffekorn started Pfefferkorn Lumber. The lumber yard was eventually run by Bill’s children, including Paul Pfefferkorn. Paul’s son Bill J. Pfefferkorn obtained a degree in civil engineering and eventually founded Chaffee Building Company as a contractor. Throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s Bill, his wife Mary Jo and their team designed and constructed several commercial and residential properties. Bill and Mary Jo’s six children were kept close by as they constructed throughout southeast Missouri.
At age 12, Gabe left the sandbox to build his first bridge. It spanned the creek near his childhood home and was strong enough to support lawn mower traffic. After high school, Gabe studied to become an engineer. Kate knew she wanted to be an engineer at age 16 after constructing homes with her father and seeing her brother build impressive structures. Kate built canoes out of cement as part of the Mizzou Concrete Canoe Team, where she also started the Mizzou chapter of Engineers Without Borders.
In their 20’s, Gabe and Kate were fortunate to do cool stuff for wonderful businesses, buy homes and start families. They collected mentors and industry experience. In their 30’s, the two siblings formed Pfefferkorn Engineering & Environmental so they could improve communities and lives through sound infrastructure as well as continue to play in the sandbox together.

The mission of Pfefferkorn Engineering & Environmental is to use our talents in engineering and environmental service to improve quality of life and better the communities in which we serve.

Personnel
PE2 has a diverse and experienced group of professional engineers, inspectors, technicians and drafters with 90 years of combined experience in transportation projects, infrastructure improvement, land development and facility operation.
The strength of PE2 is the expertise of working on construction projects, structures, roadways, bridges, and their dedication to providing the best experience for their clients. The engineering and environmental professionals on the PE2 team are subject matter experts for bridges, culverts, construction engineering, surface water management, environmental compliance and municipality roadways.
